Genesis 39

39:1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hand of the Ishmaelites, that had brought him down thither.
39:2 And Jehovah was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
39:3 And his master saw that Jehovah was with him, and that Jehovah made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
39:4 And Joseph found favor in his sight, and he ministered unto him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
39:5 And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that Jehovah blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of Jehovah was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field.
39:6 And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not aught that was with him, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was comely, and well-favored.
39:7 And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
39:8 But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master knoweth not what is with me in the house, and he hath put all that he hath into my hand:
39:9 he is not greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
39:10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
39:11 And it came to pass about this time, that he went into the house to do his work; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
39:12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
39:13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
39:14 that she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in a Hebrew unto us to mock us: he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:
39:15 and it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled, and got him out.
39:16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his master came home.
39:17 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:
39:18 and it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled out.
39:19 And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.
39:20 And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.
39:21 But Jehovah was with Joseph, and showed kindness unto him, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
39:22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.
39:23 The keeper of the prison looked not to anything that was under his hand, because Jehovah was with him; and that which he did, Jehovah made it to prosper.

Psalm 33:10-22

33:10 Jehovah bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought; He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.
33:11 The counsel of Jehovah standeth fast for ever, The thoughts of his heart to all generations.
33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, The people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
33:13 Jehovah looketh from heaven; He beholdeth all the sons of men;
33:14 From the place of his habitation he looketh forth Upon all the inhabitants of the earth,
33:15 He that fashioneth the hearts of them all, That considereth all their works.
33:16 There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
33:17 A horse is a vain thing for safety; Neither doth he deliver any by his great power.
33:18 Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, Upon them that hope in his lovingkindness;
33:19 To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.
33:20 Our soul hath waited for Jehovah: He is our help and our shield.
33:21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, Because we have trusted in his holy name.
33:22 Let thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, be upon us, According as we have hoped in thee.

Matthew 13:1-23

13:1 On that day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
13:2 And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into a boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach.
13:3 And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow;
13:4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them:
13:5 and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth:
13:6 and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
13:7 And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them:
13:8 and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
13:9 He that hath ears, let him hear.
13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
13:11 And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
13:12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.
13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
13:14 And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:
13:15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.
13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.
13:17 For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.
13:18 Hear then ye the parable of the sower.
13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.
13:20 And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;
13:21 yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.
13:22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
13:23 And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
